Distance Running Not for People With Heart Ailment

In recent years distance running has become a favorite type of activity to keep fit. However, before you decide to participate in such an activity, you need to get a clearance from your doctor because running is also a form of physical exertion that could cause undue stress to your heart. A thorough physical check up should be undertaken to know if your heart can take the undue stress, especially if you have an existing heart condition.

Even if you think that you are physically fit, you will not lose anything if you go through a checkup.  This will take out the guessing game of the true state of your health.  You do not like to end up like those three men who succumbed to heart attack while participating in various running competitions sometime in 2007.

One of these men was Mike Banner, who never knew that he had an extremely unique type of heart ailment.  His heart arteries got blocked while running the race which lead to deadly heart attack.  The other man, Ryan Shay, was at the prime of his youth at 28 when he died during a marathon for U.S. Men.  He contracted an enlarged heart condition while trying out of the Olympics.  He was aware of this and even used his condition to benefit from it.  Sadly, his early advantage became his ultimate failure.

So now you know why it is vital to consult a doctor to have the proper exercise program suitable for you.  It is a good practice to get the confirmation from your doctor that your body can take the strain that comes with any form of physical activity.  A lot of times, symptoms of illness do not become apparent until it is found out through physical examination, if you involve yourself in strenuous activities while already in a bad physical condition, then you will be endangering your health and life.

So before taking on an exercise program such as distance running, get the medical opinion of your doctor.  It is one of the ways to confirm that you are really healthy.  It is better to be safe than sorry.
