How to Breakdance: Backflip

Learning how to breakdance is probably one of the most exciting but scariest activities you’ll encounter. The same can be said about the breakdance move, the backflip. It is arguably one of the hardest breakdance moves out there because of the fear aspect.

So how exactly do you execute this amazing breakdance move?

Well, the first thing you need to do when breakdancing, is to find a spotter. You need a spotter that knows how to do this move and can help you, flip you over, save you, and so on.

Once you find a spotter, let’s get moving on learning how to breakdance!

1. Stand up straight. Keep your feet together.

2. Throw your arms down and back. Lower your body to a crouched position while you do this.

3. Throw your arms out and upward. After throwing them out, your arms should go straight upward and to the sky. This gives you the jump and height for the backflip.

4. Once you get to the height of your jump, tuck your knees to your chest and throw your arms down to your knees. This will cause your body to rotate.

5. Look for the floor! Once you see the floor, open up your legs and body to prepare for the landing.

6. You should land standing. You should NOT land crouched, on your knees, or in any other weird position.

Breakdance is all about form. Ask any breakdancer and he will tell you that you must be clean. So make sure you land standing, and practice until you get it perfect. You will not be able to practice backflip variations like the wall flip until you get this clean.
