Hunting Supplies For Your Beagle – Vital Necessities For Your Beagle!

Adding a hunting dog to your game can be an invaluable asset and greatly add to the excitement of your hunt. The type of breed you decide to use will depend greatly on the type of game you’re hunting. All the different hunting breeds offer different characteristics that allow them to excel at different types of game. For the hunter needing a dog to track prey, the beagle is the most popular dog in use. They have superior noses and good eyesight, making them the perfect dog for the job. Just like the hunter though, your beagle needs hunting supplies to ensure he is safe in the woods.

Many hunters find using a whistle a great asset in the training of their beagle. Because by nature the beagle tracks it’s prey, they often track far from the hunter. Because the hunter cannot always keep a watchful eye on his dog, a whistle can be very necessary to calling his dog back. The dog should be trained to return to it’s owner upon hearing the whistle, regardless if it is hunting or not. This whistle will also be of use when the hunter does catch up to the beagle and it’s prey; to get a good shot the hunter will need the dog to back far off from the animal. Using the whistle at this time will allow the hunter that clean shot.

Another item that every hunting dog should have is an orange hunting jacket. These are made specifically for the dog and come in a number of different sizes to fit your companion well. It can be hard to distinguish different colors while hunting, especially in the woods, where most beagles are used. It’s essential that the hunter is able to distinguisish his dog from prey, otherwise a great mishap could result. The orange jacket will also help the hunter to keep track of his dog in the woods with eyesight.

Another item to have, as with any hunting dog, is a canine first aid kit. These can be picked up at any pet supply store and will include ointment and gauze, and a splint should also be added. Also be sure to keep your dog well hydrated on the hunt, and don’t allow him to overwork himself. If the temperatures get too high, a dog can heat stroke, so a hunter needs to be able to recognize when enough is enough. With these few tips a hunter and his beagle can enjoy many seasons of successful hunts in the future.
