Festivals Around the World Celebrating Hot Air Balloons

From all around the world, one can find hot air balloon festivals.  On each continent, in almost any setting, the beauty of ballooning can be celebrated and admired.  Whether planning a holiday around the timing of your favourite fiesta, or making an annual tradition of enjoying the scenery of a local festival, hot air ballooning is something everyone can enjoy.

The festivals themselves offer a variety of activities showcasing the art of hot air balloons, and span throughout the day and night.  While most public balloon flights are held during daylight only, festivals often hold “night glows” allowing the balloons to lift off after dark and light up the night sky.  Night flying is considered unsafe because of the inability of the pilot to see any obstacles, so the “night glows” usually involve the balloon being tethered to the ground preventing it from taking full flight.  Another common practice during festivals often includes hot air balloons racing one another to a target-landing zone.

The thrill of seeing hundreds of brightly colored balloons dotting the skies above draw crowds of hundreds of thousands at most festivals.  From the hundreds of celebrations across America, to the many European festivals, to more being held across the globe, hot air ballooning is a popular and enjoyable experiencing for riders and spectators alike.  No matter if you choose to fly the skies or prefer to watch lift off and landing from the safety of the ground, balloon flights are breathtaking for everyone.

Most festivals afford visitors the opportunity to enjoy flights at a much lower price than one might fight outside the festival.  Whatever might motivate you to attend, the hot air balloon festival won’t disappoint.  From the deepest valleys to the highest peaks, the variety of settings hosting festivals around the world allow visitors to enjoy their surrounding while celebrating hot air balloons.

Young and old, experienced and novice, all involved can enjoy the splendor of balloon festivals.  It’s easy to see why so many flock to the festival ground scattered across the globe each year.  The sheer beauty of balloon flights makes the experience something that keeps most coming back year after year.  Regardless of what your level of interest might be, you just might find yourself captivated by watching the balloons take off into the sky and soar above you.  The popularity of hot air balloons makes festivals around the world a common pit stop on the perfect holiday.

New Standard Motor for the Formula-1

After the F?d?ration Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) decided in 2007 that the engine specification will be frozen to keep development costs down, they are now starting initial routine examinations on the current motors in the Formula One.

The reason for the inspections is the latest increase in efficiency which was observed on the motors from Ferrari, Mercedes and BMW. While the majority of the teams comply strictly with the new terms, the three implied car manufacturers are supposed to benefit from a gap in the new system, since there are still possibilities to make slight modifications which serve for the improvement of the reliability. The authorized adjustments can have additional positive side effects, for example increasing the engine’s power of individual cars. The difference between the cars with motors from BMW and Renault is believed to add up to 20hp already.

Of course this gives the smaller teams a hard fight since they don’t command the courage to do the same. For that reason they apply for a so-called level regulation. One of the affected teams commented publicly about this situation and wishes that the engine power at start would be more balanced for the teams. “Last year we had a competitive machine but this year according to our analysis there are several teams which are ahead of us. Probably the most notable indication for that, you can find it in our two Red-Bull teams,” so the manager of the British team, Christian Horner.

The new regulation was planned to be apply until 2013, but after the latest detections the FIA needs to step in and if necessary has to modify them sooner. In case this won’t happen, it may be possible that the Formula One could break down.

Everybody who is actively involved in the Formula-1 knows that the expenses need to be reduced to make a continuity possible. With the new plan the costs are reported to be up to 95% less. But about the standard motor there are conflicting opinions. For the leading manufacturers as Mercedes, Ferrari or BMW this means that they will not be able to take advantage of their technical competence anymore; and this is obviously adverse to their interests, says BMW-Motorsports-Director Mario Theissen. For the smaller teams as Renault or Toyota the new regulation is a new chance which may bring them quite a few benefits. There are voices that have many doubts about the new plan and they complain that there is no more stability and planning security in the Formula-1. We cannot rule out the possibility that some of the manufacturers may pull out.

About one week ago the FIA announced that there will be three lucky teams that will obtain the authorization to make some slight modifications to their car’s engine prior to the beginning of the next season. The lucky three are Toyota, Renault and Honda. The general idea of this exception is to balance out the relative strength of the Formula-1 motors.

Kansas – Great Place For Pheasant Hunting

Kansas has long been considered a great pheasant hunting destination. The numbers vary year to year, but it consistently ranks in the top four, along with South Dakota, for locations to pheasant hunt. With a little research, a sportsman can find many great locations Kansas offers to the pheasant hunter.

Doing research on both pheasant and the Kansas landscape will be essential for a good hunt. Habitat varies greatly every year depending on a number of factors; precipitation is the primary concern which determines crop growth for the year. Tall grass and crop fields are the best locations in Kansas to find pheasant, but a severe drought could almost completely diminish this habitat for the pheasant, so knowing what the weather has done for the year will be an important factor in your Kansas pheasant hunt.

Crop fields are some of the best hunting locations available in Kansas. The condition of the crop is paramount however; wheat crop is important to pheasant nesting so if the crop doesn’t do well, neither will the fowl that depends on it. Also, changes in Kansas’ agricultural practices have greatly affected the pheasant population in the past 20 years; Much of the once great pheasant population has been depleted.

Due to a dedicated effort to boost the bird population though, organizations such as Pheasants Forever have began preserving and restoring pheasant habitat in conjunction with local landowners. They’ve lobbied for changes in federal farming policies, and worked to educate people on the importance of conservation. In 1995 Kansas initiated a Walk-In Hunting Area program in which landowners enrolled more than one million acres of land for the use of fowl hunting. This not only loosened the strain on public land during pheasant season, but it gave hunters a chance to hunt locations normally off limits to them. Also, only walk-in traffic was allowed, which meant no waiting lists and no extra license fees for hunters.

Kansas also offers the hunter many professional guide services to assist him on his pheasant hunt. These guides are often experts of the area in terrain and pheasant behavior, so enlisting their help can be a priceless resource for the hunter looking to limit out on this clever and challenging fowl. With a little time and research a hunter can find plenty of great locations offered to him by the great pheasant hunting state of Kansas.
